Modular Homes - What Are They?
Modular
Homes: At first glance, manufactured homes and modular homes may seem
to be the same thing. After all, both are built in a factory and shipped
to the site for installation. Much of the difference, however, is under
their skin. Modular homes and manufactured homes are built to different
standards.
Modular homes are built to standards similar to those
for site-built homes. In other words, they are built with specific dimensioned
lumber sizes, etc., to comply with local, Manufactured homes, on
the other hand, are built to federal standards embodied in the HUD Code.
Of course, these building regulations, the HUD code, and
other legal requirements represent minimum standards. Individual manufacturers
may build modular homes that exceed the government standards and that
offer additional certifications; most new homes will come with a warranty
for additional buyer protection and assurance of quality. For one such
